Clermont Unlocked respects the privacy of its visitors. This Privacy & Cookie Policy explains what information may be collected when you use our website, why it is collected and what choices you have.
1. Who is responsible for this website?
Clermont Unlocked is an independent, non-commercial student media project operated by Lea-Sophie Weber, Maren Strecker, Valeria Pennacchia, Hiba Lamrani and Florian Dalbignat. The student team determines the purposes and means of the website’s personal-data processing and is responsible for that processing. The project was created for a Digital Marketing course at Clermont Business School, but the school does not operate the website and is not responsible for its content or data processing.

2. Information we may collect
Depending on how you use the website, we may process the following information:
Newsletter subscription
If you subscribe to the Clermont Unlocked newsletter, we process:
- your email address;
- the date and time of subscription;
- information required to manage your subscription and unsubscribe request.
We use this information only to send the Clermont Unlocked newsletter and manage the subscriber list.
The legal basis for this processing is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). Providing your email address is voluntary, but it is needed to send the newsletter.
You can unsubscribe at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in our newsletters.
Your email address will be retained until you unsubscribe, unless applicable law requires us to retain specific information for a longer period.
Contact
If you contact Clermont Unlocked directly, we may process the information you voluntarily provide, such as:
- your name;
- your email address;
- the content of your message.
We use this information to respond to your request, based on our legitimate interest in handling enquiries (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a Google service, to understand how visitors use Clermont Unlocked and to evaluate our content. The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can refuse analytics without losing access to the website and withdraw consent through Cookie settings.
Analytics may include information such as:
- pages viewed;
- approximate location;
- device and browser information;
- traffic source;
- interactions with the website.
Analytics cookies or similar technologies are activated only where the required consent has been provided.
The information is used for aggregated website-performance analysis and to improve Clermont Unlocked.
See Google’s Privacy Policy and Google Analytics cookie documentation for details.
3. WordPress.com
Clermont Unlocked is hosted on WordPress.com, a service operated by Automattic.
WordPress.com may process technical information necessary to host, secure and operate the website and may use cookies or similar technologies.
Technical data may include IP addresses, browser information and access logs used to deliver and secure the website. Our legal basis for necessary website operation and security is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). See Automattic’s Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for its processing as a service provider or independent controller.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device when you visit a website.
Clermont Unlocked may use:
Necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the website to function properly, maintain security or remember essential settings.
They do not require optional consent where they are strictly necessary for the service requested.
Analytics cookies
Google Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use Clermont Unlocked. These include _ga (visitor recognition) and _ga_* (session state). Google documents a default lifetime of two years; browser restrictions and custom settings can shorten it. Cookie lifetime is separate from the retention of data in Google Analytics. The necessary kncc_consent cookie remembers your cookie choices for one year.
They are not activated before consent where prior consent is required.
Third-party content
Embedded content or external services, such as videos, maps, social media content or other third-party tools, may use their own cookies or tracking technologies.
Where required, these services will only be activated after you have given consent.
5. Your cookie choices
When you first visit Clermont Unlocked, you may be asked to choose whether you accept optional cookies.
You can:
- accept optional cookies;
- reject optional cookies;
- change or withdraw your choice later.
Strictly necessary cookies may remain active because they are required for the website to function.
Use the floating Cookie settings button to reopen your choices at any time. Refusing optional cookies does not prevent access to our articles.
6. Newsletter service providers
We use the integrated WordPress.com Newsletter service, operated by Automattic, to manage newsletter subscriptions and send newsletter emails.
For this purpose, WordPress.com may process information such as:
- your email address
- subscription and unsubscribe information
- newsletter delivery data
- newsletter opens and link clicks used for performance measurement
You can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link included in our newsletter emails.
Further information is available in Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
7. International data transfers
Some service providers used by Clermont Unlocked, including providers of hosting, analytics or newsletter services, may process information outside the European Economic Area.
We remain responsible for selecting and using our providers in accordance with applicable data-protection requirements. Depending on the recipient and transfer, safeguards may include an applicable adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses. Details and information about obtaining copies of the relevant safeguards are available in the providers’ documentation or from our privacy contact.
See Google’s data transfer frameworks and Automattic’s Privacy Policy.
8. How long we keep information
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
In particular:
- newsletter email addresses are retained until the subscriber unsubscribes;
- contact messages are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with the request;
- analytics data is retained according to the configuration of the analytics service.
The end of the academic course does not necessarily mean that Clermont Unlocked will close. If the website or newsletter continues, personal data will remain subject to the retention periods described in this policy. If a service is permanently discontinued, personal data held for that service will be deleted or irreversibly anonymised once it is no longer needed, except where limited retention is legally required.
9. Your rights
Under applicable data-protection law, you may have the right to:
- access your personal data;
- request correction of inaccurate data;
- request deletion of your data;
- restrict certain processing;
- object to certain processing;
- withdraw your consent at any time where processing is based on consent;
- request portability of your data where applicable.
To exercise your rights, contact lea-sophie.weber@student.clermont-sb.fr, our privacy contact, or any team member listed above. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the French data-protection authority, the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL).
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy & Cookie Policy if the website, analytics tools, newsletter service or applicable requirements change.
The current version and its last-update date will always be published on this page.
